William J Allan Jr., loving family man

William J. Allan Jr., 89, went to be with the Lord Saturday, Dec. 12, 2020. He passed away peacefully at Brandywine Assisted Living on the birthday of his wife of 69 years, Hazel.

Born in Yonkers, N.Y., to the late William Allan and Elizabeth (Walker) Allan, he was the loving father of Barbara Gipe, William (Jeanne), Michael (Lauren), Richard, Patricia Casarella (Dan) and his late son James. He had eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother David Allan (Louise) of Thornwood, N.Y.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters Alyce Gorey and Elizabeth Devine, and his brother Edward.

Mr. Allan graduated from Westchester Community College and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked for nearly 40 years for the New York Telephone Company and NYNEX Corporation where he was a pioneer in the design, installation and maintenance of computerized switching systems. He lived for over 60 years in his home in Elmsford, N.Y.

Bill was very active in his parish church, Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Elmsford where he was an usher, lector and long-time member and past president of the Holy Name Society. He was a trustee of the Village of Elmsford from 1981-83, and once served as grand marshal of the Village’s Memorial Day Parade.

His charming wit will be missed by all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held in New York. Donations can be made in his memory to Our Lady of Mount Carmel School, 59 East Main St., Elmsford, NY 10523.
